Sources

Every source behind the production index — named, linked, and with its blind spots stated. If we can't point at where a number came from, we shouldn't be publishing it.

How to read this

We collect only from pages that are publicly accessible without a login. Anything behind authentication is excluded regardless of whether it could technically be fetched — that rule is why the Directors Guild production lists, which would be excellent, aren't here.

Union branch pages appear because they are public. They cover signatory productions only, so they are accurate but incomplete by design. Where a source states its own limits, we reproduce them below rather than quietly presenting partial data as complete.

Several sources carry personal information — production managers, coordinators, office addresses. We ingest it for record-matching and never publish it. See the methodology.

Alberta

ACTRA Alberta — What's Shooting ↗

Web page / PDF · tier 4 · public
7 records contains PII — not published

What it misses: ACTRA-signatory productions ONLY. The page states members may not work on productions without an agreement, so anything non-signatory is absent by design — this is not a complete Alberta picture.

PUBLIC branch page, not a member area — passes the legal gate that excludes DGC production lists. Structured table: title, start/end date, location, key personnel.

British Columbia

Creative BC — Stages & Studio Facilities ↗

Web page / PDF · tier 2 · public
not yet run

What it misses: BC only. Creative BC maps 2.2M+ sq ft of stage space, but the public page may summarise rather than list every facility with specs — expect facility-level records, not per-stage.

Anchor stage source. Stages range from ~2,000 sq ft to 120,000+ sq ft across purpose-built, warehouse conversion, FX and broadcast types.

Creative BC — In Production ↗

Web page / PDF · tier 2 · public
31 records contains PII — not published

What it misses: Explicitly may exclude lifestyle, documentary and animation projects. List is gathered from industry sources including DGC-BC registrations.

VERIFIED 2026-07-30 BY COLLECTION RUN: the public /in-production/ page is a SHELL — it carries the "current as of" date and the disclaimer, but the production list itself is NOT in the HTML. Do not point the adapter at it — the list is served from the Salesforce Sites host configured above, which returns plain HTML. The Knowledge Hub (knowledgehub.creativebc.com) is a separate, apparently stale Experience Cloud app carrying a COVID-era notice: not the live list.

Vancouver Island South — In Production ↗

Web page / PDF · tier 3 · public
2 records

What it misses: Vancouver Island South only — Victoria and surrounding region. Does not cover Vancouver, the Lower Mainland or the BC Interior.

Regional commission list. Matters because Creative BC (the province-wide source) is a JS shell with no data in the HTML — this is currently the only working BC production source.

UBCP/ACTRA — Active Productions ↗

Web page / PDF · tier 4 · public
not yet run contains PII — not published

What it misses: UBCP/ACTRA-signatory productions in BC only. Performer-side, so non-signatory and crew-only productions are absent.

Dated PDF, republished regularly. Complements Creative BC (commission-side) with the performer-side view of the same market.

UBCP/ACTRA — Active ULB Productions ↗

Web page / PDF · tier 4 · public
not yet run contains PII — not published

What it misses: ULTRA LOW BUDGET productions only — a distinct agreement tier, mostly small indies. Kept separate from the main list rather than merged, because "how much ULB is shooting" is a different signal from headline volume.

Second PDF on the same landing page as the main UBCP list.

Canada

ProductionHUB — Studios & Soundstages, Canada ↗

Web page / PDF · tier 6 · public
not yet run

What it misses: Commercial directory, self-listed — coverage reflects who paid or bothered to list, not who exists. Specs are advertiser-supplied and unverified. Use for DISCOVERY of facility names only, then confirm specs against the studio's own site.

Cross-check source, not a source of record. Left status=unverified deliberately: confirm robots.txt and terms of use before the collector is pointed at it.

not yet run

What it misses: DISCOVERY ONLY, and model-mediated. Grounded against Google so every claim carries a citation, but specs must be confirmed against each facility's own site before publishing. Non-deterministic: two runs return different text, so the diff stage will almost always re-extract — hence the quarterly cadence.

Uses Gemini google_search grounding rather than scraping search results, which Google's terms prohibit. groundingMetadata citations are written into the markdown so provenance survives into the archive.

Creative Pathways — Studios & Soundstages ↗

Web page / PDF · tier 3 · public
not yet run

What it misses: Industry-education resource rather than a facilities register — coverage is illustrative of the sector, not exhaustive.

National scope, complements the province-specific commission directories.

Manitoba

ACTRA Manitoba — What's Filming ↗

Web page / PDF · tier 4 · public
29 records contains PII — not published

What it misses: ACTRA-signatory productions only. The branch explicitly states it does not list rumoured or unconfirmed productions, so this lags announcements — accurate but late.

PUBLIC branch page. Only Manitoba production source in the registry. Conservative by policy, which makes it high-precision and low-recall.

Newfoundland and Labrador

ACTRA Newfoundland & Labrador — What's Shooting ↗

Web page / PDF · tier 4 · public
8 records contains PII — not published

What it misses: ACTRA-signatory productions only, and the branch states it does not list rumoured productions. Small market — expect low volume rather than assuming a failed run.

PUBLIC branch page. Only NL production source in the registry.

Nova Scotia

IATSE Local 849 — Current Productions ↗

Web page / PDF · tier 4 · public
13 records contains PII — not published

What it misses: Local 849 covers ATLANTIC CANADA as a whole — Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI and Newfoundland — so the jurisdiction field understates its reach. Crew-side (IATSE) signatories, a different set from the ACTRA performer-side lists.

PUBLIC page. Complements the ACTRA lists: IATSE is crew-side, ACTRA is performer-side, so the two catch different productions in the same market.

ACTRA Maritimes — What's Filming ↗

Web page / PDF · tier 4 · public
not yet run contains PII — not published

What it misses: Covers the MARITIMES — Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI — so the jurisdiction field understates its reach; records carry their own province where stated. ACTRA-signatory only. Overlaps IATSE 849, which covers the same region crew-side.

PUBLIC branch page. Performer-side counterpart to IATSE 849 in Atlantic Canada.

Ontario

Cinespace Toronto ↗

Web page / PDF · tier 5 · public
not yet run

What it misses: Single operator. Ontario's largest — 1.4M+ sq ft across three campuses — so it is a big share of the province by itself, but it is one company's own marketing.

FACILITY-OWN SITE: the enrichment tier. Commission directories give names; the operator gives specs. This is the pattern for filling stage specs generally.

Stratagem Kleinburg Studio ↗

Web page / PDF · tier 5 · public
not yet run

What it misses: Single facility, operator-published specs.

Facility-own site — enrichment tier.

ACTRA Toronto — What's Shooting ↗

Web page / PDF · tier 4 · public
97 records contains PII — not published

What it misses: ACTRA-signatory productions only. Largest ACTRA branch by volume — expect heavy overlap with Ontario Creates, which is a reconciliation problem rather than a collection one.

PUBLIC branch page, paginated. Performer-side; complements Ontario Creates.

City of Toronto — Current Productions ↗

Web page / PDF · tier 3 · public
14 records

What it misses: City of Toronto only — not the GTA. Toronto publishes no film permit dataset on its open data portal (confirmed against their CKAN API 2026-07-30), so this page is the only municipal source for the largest market in the country.

Municipal film office listing. Notable because the open-data route does not exist here: /catalogue returns one unrelated match for "film".

Hollywood North Buzz — Production List (East) ↗

Web page / PDF · tier 9 · public
not yet run

What it misses: INDUSTRY NEWS SITE, not an official or union source — treat as corroboration, never as a sole source of record. Compiled from public reporting, so accuracy varies and confidence should stay low.

Uniquely valuable for one thing: it publishes WORKING/COVER TITLES alongside real titles ("Working title: HAPPILY EVER AFTER"). That mapping is the seed of the cover-title decoder (PLAN.md §6.4), which nothing else in the registry provides.

CION — Film & TV Hotlist (Northern Ontario) ↗

Web page / PDF · tier 3 · public
not yet run

What it misses: NORTHERN ONTARIO only — Sudbury, North Bay and region. Deliberately not the GTA, so it fills the gap Ontario Creates and ACTRA Toronto leave in the north rather than duplicating them.

Regional commission hotlist. Northern Ontario carries real series volume that metro-focused sources miss.

Ontario Creates — Media List ↗

Web page / PDF · tier 2 · public
21 records contains PII — not published

Biweekly PDF at an enumerable URL — free historical backfill. Richest confirmed source: titles, companies, directors, producers, PMs, dates, locations.

Quebec

ACTRA Montreal — What's Shooting ↗

Web page / PDF · tier 4 · public
53 records contains PII — not published

What it misses: ACTRA-signatory productions only. Covers ACTRA Montreal jurisdiction — English-language work in Quebec. French-language productions under UDA agreements are not here.

PUBLIC branch page. Largest of the ACTRA pages by volume. Currently the only Quebec production source in the registry.

Vancouver

Vancouver — Film office work areas ↗

Open data API · tier 1 · public · Open Government Licence — Vancouver
unchanged

What it misses: Neighbourhood work-area polygons, not permit records — geographic activity mapping only, not production identification.

Opendatasoft REST API. Check the same portal for a distinct permit dataset.

Deliberately excluded
  • Directors Guild of Canada production lists — login-gated. Members-only content is off-limits regardless of technical accessibility.
  • Casting breakdown services — paid licensed products.
  • Any union member area — same rule as the DGC lists.
  • Street-level locations and call sheets — we never collect or publish them. A site that helps people find working sets is worthless to the industry it depends on.
Know a source we're missing?

Coverage is uneven and we'd rather say so than pretend otherwise. If your region publishes a production list we aren't reading, tell us.
